Apr 20 RRCA Announces New North Carolina State Rep
Mike Walsh has been selected by Southern Region Director, Lena Hollmann, to replace her as the North Carolina RRCA State Rep. Walsh served as president of the North Carolina Roadrunners Club (NCRC) in 2006 and 2007, and continues to be heavily involved with the club and the local running scene. As president, Mike converted NCRC to a completely volunteer led, run and staffed organization with a mission driven focus to promote the health benefits of running, walking, and physical fitness. NCRC experienced a 20%+ membership growth as club activities were significantly expanded to promote a feeling of community, including functions with other local clubs and the creation of an official club racing team. Communication was strengthened through the launch of a brand new website and newsletter (2x RRCA regional winner), an expanded online discussion group and increased club interaction with local media outlets. Volunteerism was promoted through identification of 40+ official roles to recognize volunteers and creation of a new volunteer reward program. NCRC demonstrated strong support of RRCA programs through their involvement in kids running, women’s development, Run at Work day and the grassroots volunteer recognition program (including several national award winners from NCRC). During Mike’s tenure the club brought two races back under club control and launched two brand new races for a total of six races through the year, three of them being RRCA championships. Finally, NCRC achieved greatly improved financial security via cost control and new revenue generation so that today the club has adequate financial reserves and is now considering funding grants for local health-promoting organizations.STATE REP OPPORTUNITIES The RRCA is seeking dedicated volunteers to serve as the RRCA State Rep in the following states: Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oregon, Wyoming, Idaho, and South Carolina.
