RRCA Reaches 1000 Member Organization Milestone

Arlington, VA - During the month of June 2009, the RRCA reached a new milestone when it welcomed its 1000th member for 2009.

“We are excited to hit this milestone,” commented Brent Ayer, RRCA President. “It speaks well about the health of the RRCA, and the sport of running that we are able to keep growing during uncertain economic times.”

The RRCA is pleased to welcome the Runner’s Edge Foundation.

The Runner's Edge Foundation is an extension of Tom Vladimir and Carol Virga’s desire to give back to the community by supporting youth runners, local teams, the running clubs and producing events. The Runner's Edge Foundation will present the Boca Half Marathon in its 9th year this November as well as the Holiday Mile in downtown Boca Raton in December. Carol is a former world-class marathon runner including a participant in the US Olympic Trials in 1992 as a maters and has won numerous marathons with a PR of 2:42. Tom Vladimir is the President of the Boca Raton Police Athletic League, a former Division I head Cross Country Coach, and has served as the Florida RRCA State Rep plus being the former President with over 10 years on the Boca Raton Road Runners Board. The Runner's Edge Foundation also offers marathon training programs, 6-months of the year, from July-January, to train local runners for Chicago, New York, Palm Beach, Miami and Disney marathons.

"We aren't able to compete at the levels we used to, but we continue to love our sport and strive to give back to the running community and we hope the Runner's Edge Foundation will be able to help serve our community. Our club was inspired by the great work of Jon and Betsy Hughes and the Track Shack Foundation and we hope to be able to give back to our community.”

As the 1000th member of the RRCA, the Runner’s Edge Foundation will receive one free registration to the 51st Annual RRCA National Convention to be held in Lakeland, FL from April 21-25, 2010.

Following the Runner’s Edge Foundation, the RRCA has received ten more new members including the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, bringing total organization members up to 1010.
