All MN State Employees invited to Run@Work

St. Paul, MN - To celebrate National Run@Work Day, all State of Minnesota employees are encouraged to take their personal break time to participate in the first ever Minnesota State Capitol “Run@Work Day” 5K and Half 5K event, sponsored by the Run@Work Day Committee of employees from Mn/DOT and supported by the Mn/DOT Health & Wellness Committee. This event will take place at the State Capitol Complex in St. Paul, MN on Friday, September 18, 2009 and Transportation Commissioner, Tom Sorel, will be presiding over the race start!

There will be 2 versions of the race that you can choose to participate in:
• Full 5K Race (3.1 miles / involves 2 loops around designated race route circling Capitol Complex)
• Half 5K Race (1.55 miles / involves 1 loop around designated race route circling Capitol Complex)

There will be 3 Competitive Divisions, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes awarded in each:
• Ages 18-34
• Ages 35-49
• Ages 50+

WHO is invited to participate?
ALL State of Minnesota employees are invited to join in the run! You DO NOT have to work at the Capitol Complex to participate—you just need to work for the State of Minnesota. We are hoping to engage the involvement of as many State of Minnesota offices and agencies as possible! Transportation Commissioner, Tom Sorel and many of his office staff will be in attendance—so this will be an event you don’t want to miss!

Schedule of Events
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Run @ Work Day Celebration on Capitol Lawn
Employees will be able to talk with health-related run supporters about services they offer to foster a healthy lifestyle and promote the sport of running, pick-up giveaways and enjoy free food during this time period. ALL employees are welcome to attend the celebration—regardless of if they are participating in the race or not.

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Run @ Work Day 5K and Half 5K Race around Capitol Complex area
Race start will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the State Capitol lawn area. Race course will close at 12:30 p.m.

12:45 to 1:00 p.m. Run @ Work Day Winner’s Ceremony on Capitol Lawn
Race winners will be honored in a brief ceremony and everyone will receive a HUGE pat on the back for participating in this historic event! Stand-by for more news about potential state leaders who may be attending this event!

Registration information will be circulated to all MN state employees.

We Are Dedicating this Run to Addressing Hunger in our Community!
Help us to promote running and fitness and to “stamp out” hunger in our community! We ask that all race participants, as well as employees cheering on the runners and enjoying the celebration, bring at least 1 non-perishable food item to the race. Proceeds will go to Second Harvest Food Bank in St. Paul.
